Dependent Life Insurance
Dependent life insurance is available through employers and can be used for the dependents of the employee. Usually you are eligible to get this coverage after 31 days of employment. You can place various dependents on the policy, such as:
- Spouse/Domestic Partner
- Biological Child/Step Child
- Adopted Child
- Domestic Partner’s Child
- Legal Guardian of a Child

The waiting period begins the first day you begin working, but if you decide to enroll a dependent based on a change in the family, like a marriage or child birth, the waiting period will begin on the date of that event. It is required of you to release a statement of health; this is only required for the adults, not children. The statement of health inquires about the individual’s medical history, which can then be the basis of determination if he or she will be accepted.
Dependant Life Insurance for Spouses
If your spouse and you had separate individual life insurance plans and your spouse becomes unemployed, you will be able to enroll him or her on the day of termination. Depending on the plan you are enrolled in will determine which coverage options you can enroll your dependents into. If you have Basic or Core Life insurance alone, you will be able to enroll your dependent in Basic Dependent Life insurance. If you have Basic/Core life insurance with Supplemental life insurance, you can enroll your dependent in the Expanded Dependent life insurance policy.
You are able to transfer the dependent to the Basic Plan from Expanded Life at anytime, but in order to transfer dependent from Basic to Expanded Life, a statement of health will be required (still isn’t necessary for a child). Dual coverage isn’t allowed. Request a quote directly through Dependent-Life-Insurance.com and an insurance agent will call you soon.
